I have never heard a Strata-East record I didn't love. Capra Black is no exception to that. The formidable Billy Harper is joined by an ensemble group, featuring the legend of fusion jazz drumming, Billy Cobham. Like many other Strata-East releases, the unique mix of jazz and avant-garde black expression is breathtaking. There is a pungent influence of not only gospel, but classic jazz, experimental tinges, and soul. An incredible album for the heart. Spiritual gets tossed around a lot when describing this release, and while at first I found that word to be a bit strained, I could certainly agree after first listen this is an incredibly introspective album with lots of romantic qualities that equate to spirit and soul. I look forward to one day being able to purchase this album on vinyl.
