Swing Kids - Discography

San Diego was a hotbed of activity in the early 90's. A new style of rock was getting polished right under the nose's of all those beach-goers and 1970's anchormen ("they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina").  San Diego punk was sporadic, mathematical, and sung only by screaming as loud as possible.  Many internet scholars pin point this as the birth of screamo, a variation on emo punk, recognizable by the incessant yells of the singer, often on the verge of dying.  This became a huge defining are of music in the late 90's and early 2000's, where everyone was so weird that they'd circle around a screamo band and just stare at them for like an hour, not doing anything.  Swing Kids are Justin Pearson's first band, before he did a bunch more screamo projects. He vocals are....you guessed it: harsh and dissonant.  Jose Palafox is a really cool drummer who uses all empty space in the recording studio, filling it with powerhouse cracks and booms. This album collects their entire discography, 7", 2 split 7"s, and comps. There are only 7 songs, but you will feel those 7 songs.  They are assaulting and manic; flailing around with direction. It is incredible.  This is music to disappear into; brimming with poignant ideas. This will be a polarizing one; not everyone digs being yelled at. Personally, I just choose to believe Justin's normal voice is aggressive shouting.  Like he was never even trying to sing.  For all I know, I'm right.
