Duke Ellington - In The Uncommon Market

The Duke. Very little needs to said about the Duke because my words will do no justice to his musical accomplishments. It is always better to listen. This is a live album of tracks from 1963 and 66 captured by Norman Granz (the founder of jazz labels, Verve and Pablo) at European shows in Sweden, Italy, and France. The songs featured are odd bunch of tracks (perhaps explaining the name of the album) yet the cohesiveness of the band is undeniably tight. The B-Side especially features some wonderful compositions, Guitar Amour and The Shepard are standout performances. Duke is prominent on the tracks, but so are all the other players - it is an equal give and take with no musician taking too much space. A wonderful live album I was fortunate enough to hear through a friend's copy he recently picked up at a local record shop.
