Donald Byrd - Electric Byrd

Tripped-out space funk to take your mind away on a rocket ship of mystery. That is what this is. Ron Carter’s bass is slick and lays down some eerie beats that drummer, Mickey Roker, compliments; everyone is on point with their playing, Byrd’s trumpet is reactionary to the changes jazz was going through in 1970.  The last song, The Dude, slips and slaps every note.  The solos are articulate and sly, the whole thing feels like a heist in space.  If astronauts wore suits in orbit, I hope they’d listen to something like this while they smoke stogies and drink space Manhattans.
