764-Hero - Salt Sinks and Sugar Floats

Another release from indie powerhouse, Up Records.  764 - Hero is a preliminary example of what was happening in Seattle and the entire Pacific Northwest after grunge was essentially dead/bloated over.  Singer and guitarist, John Atkins has immense indie pop focus, in many ways a pioneer of what modern indie looks like, only with more synths and production.  His voice booms in the space 764-Hero creates, it's nostalgic, broken, and intriguing. There's a lot of story in each song. Polly Johnson is a great drummer too, she lays down some foot-tappers, giving plenty of space for the multiple guitars to work with. This album is their first LP, it's overall less of a rocker than their later stuff, but their is still some really punk tunes. The songs are a quieter, helps to highlight John Atkin's voice a lot. A great indie release for people interested in Modest Mouse, Foxing, anything labeled indie really, this is some golden stuff.
