Jerry Butler - The Ice Man Cometh

Heyyyyy Western Union Mannnnnnn, send a tellllleeeeegram. Soul music for your dang soul. Jerry Butler, of Impressions and Cook County Commissioner fame, turned his icy emotions towards the shining path of love with his 11th (yeah) album.  The songs are Chicago soul classics, filled with deep emotional singing and pleading, poppy string arrangements, and some really dank disco guitar,  Most songs deal with love or the lack of it rather, Jerry wore his heart on his sleeve I guess. It's still really funky and always puts me in a decent mood, even if the songs deal with heartbreak.  Jerry has an awesome way of expressing himself and it really shows with this collection of songs. He feels more like an old pro going into the studio with guts and sincerity.  For being his 11th album, there is still an aurora of magic around the cheesy late 60's sound. Call it the innocence of the music, but there is something remarkably dignified in the way Jerry Butler melts his icy heart in each song.
